Have you heard of Zaycon? They bring bulk meat at great prices to special events across the country, and they come highly recommended. They haven’t had many events in Northeast Ohio in the past, but they’re coming in October to Canton, Akron, Elyria, Cleveland, and Toledo.
Here’s how it works: You place an order on their web site. On the day of the event, you come to the location (usually a church) at the specified time to pick up your meat. Orders come in cases of 40 pounds (four 10-pound bags), so it’s recommended that you repackage them in smaller quantities before freezing when you get home. The price for the upcoming events is $1.84/lb, so a 40-pound case will run you $73.60.
Not sure what to do with that much chicken? We’ll help you with some ideas for how to prepare it. My game plan is to freeze about 1/4 of it whole (in family-sized servings), freeze 1/4 of it cubed and marinated for Chicken Stir Fry and Honey Garlic Chicken, then pre-cook the rest and shred it for chicken pot pie, chicken tacos, chicken casseroles, and soups. I’ll freeze that in meal-sized portions, and have a bunch of convenient options ready and waiting in the freezer! Check back next week for a bunch of chicken recipes.
There’s still time to order for the Northeast Ohio Chicken Events coming up on October 15-16. They have also added Bacon, Sausage, Ground Beef, and Ham events in Ohio later in the fall! Here’s the Northeast Ohio event schedule for the rest of the fall and early winter (they’re also coming to other areas in Ohio, and other states too–check the Zaycon web site if your area isn’t listed!):
Richmond Heights, OH Sausage, Bacon Event: November 2, 2013 @ 8:00 am
