Class Party Idea: Decorate Your Own Cookie!
Here’s a simple and fun idea if you’re on room parent duty for your kids’ Christmas party. I’ve done this several times for my son’s class at school, and it’s been a big hit! Same concept as the Valentine-y picture above, but use green icing and Christmas sprinkles. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 tubs of white icing (or red/green icing if you can find it)
- food coloring
- mini cupcake liners
- several different colors of sprinkles
- plastic knives or spoons for spreading the icing
- 1 sugar cookie per student
Use the food coloring to color 1/2 of the icing green. Use a small cookie scoop to portion out individual servings of the icing into the mini cupcake liners. Put a small portion of the sprinkles in cupcake liners too. This makes them easy to pass out during the class party. I was able to fit all my icings and sprinkles in a 9×13 pan, which made them easy to transport to school.
This project doubled as both a craft and snack, and the kids loved being able to choose their own icing and sprinkle colors (not to mention licking the spoon!)
We have two delicious recipes for cut-out sugar cookies: check out Megan’s Sour Cream Sugar Cookies and Sara’s Favorite Cut-Out Cookies. I recommend you roll the cookies fairly thick so they’re less likely to break as the kids work their magic! You can also use this Icing Recipe to make your own icing and tint it with food coloring.
