Tuesday Tip: Sharing your Savings

The primary reason most of us use coupons and hunt for bargains is to save money on the items our family needs and wants to use.  But many of us also take advantage of deals to help others in our communities and beyond.  So often, we’re able to score toothpaste, body wash, sanitary pads, and other items for free or better.  When we alert you to these deals in our weekly matchups, it’s a great chance to think of people outside your household and pick up some items to donate or share.

I love being able to stretch my donation dollars further by using coupons and sales to pick up personal care items my church is collecting for various missions projects.  We were also recently able to donate two prizes to a benefit raffle for one of my daughter’s classmates: a “Deals and Steals” basket with food, health & beauty, and household items, and a “Play Time Package” with items from our gift closet (bought on sale or with coupons), plus some snacks to go with them (pictured above).  Both were worth much more than I’d actually paid, were useful to those who won them, and raised money to help a special little boy.

There are so many needs, including animal shelters, pregnancy centers, disaster response programs, domestic violence shelters, ministries for the homeless…the list is endless, but just looking at the places mentioned, I can think of several sale/coupon matchups in recent weeks that could help each one, and I bet you could too.  You can also share on a more personal level by gathering a basket of food and toiletries to take to a family going through a rough time, or sending a care package to someone serving overseas.

Consider looking over the weekly matchups with the needs of others in mind.  A little effort can yield some valuable help for others!  Check out some sharing opportunities HERE, and tell us how you’ve lived out the Sisters’ motto of “Save, Shop, Share” in your own life–share your stories in the comments or on Facebook!
