HoHo Sheet Cake Recipe

If you’re looking for a decadent holiday cake that will feed the masses, the HoHo Sheet Cake Recipe will meet both of those requirements! I have a large holiday party each year and this is always on the menu.  It can easily feed 20 people.

HoHo Sheet Cake

Ingredients
  • Cake
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1⁄2 cup melted butter
  • 1⁄2 cup oil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1⁄2 cup buttermilk
  • Filling
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1⁄2 cup milk
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1-2 tablespoons water
  • Icing
  • 1⁄2 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 3⁄4 cup semi-sweet (or dark) chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
  1. Cake: Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, salt & cocoa together.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and beat well.
  3. Pour into greased Jelly Roll Pan.
  4. Bake at 350 deg for 15 minutes (check with toothpick)
  5. Filling: Beat together 1 cup powdered sugar and all remaining ingredients for 5 minutes.
  6. Add additional powdered sugar, one cup at a time until you get the consistency of icing
  7. Beat until smooth and pliable
  8. Spread onto cooled cake layer
  9. Put in freezer while you make the frosting
  10. Frosting: Mix sugar, butter, and milk together. Bring to soft boil for approximately 2 minutes.
  11. Remove from heat
  12. Add chocolate chips and vanilla
  13. Beat until cooled and slightly thickened.
  14. Spread over chilled filling layer
  15. Let stand until frosting cools and sets
  16. Chill until ready to serve
