True confession time: I’d love to be super organized with all the different areas of my home in order. But with four small kids (Megan), work, church, and everything else, some things just never seems to make it to the top of my to-do list.
So here’s my first in a series of quick challenges to tackle some problem areas. If you’ve ever been attacked by frozen food when you open the freezer, here’s a chance to fight back. Get organized so you know what you have and don’t waste any of your great deals. Just so you know, we’re in this together, here’s my “before” picture (yikes!):
Megan’s freezer “before” (I don’t want Sara taking the blame for this mess!)
We found blueberries we picked this summer that we thought were gone (yeah!), and four partially-used containers of Cool Whip (Seriously–four. What’s wrong with me?). We had to pitch a few freezer burned or expired things that had been buried, but I also discovered a few other forgotten items that will become dinner in the coming week. We got on a roll, and instead of just doing one shelf, we got the whole freezer done in about 10 minutes. Drumroll please…
Ta da! (and yes, my children have a GoGurt addiction)
It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot better: I know what I have now, it only took a few minutes to organize, and if I can put new things where they belong I won’t have to do this again for a while.
OK, your turn! Go now (don’t worry, we’ll be here waiting for you!), set a timer for 5 minutes, and organize a shelf or two of your freezer. Group like items together, and check for expiration dates and freezer burn. If you still feel motivated after 5 minutes, by all means keep going, but 5 minutes is the challenge.
You might be amazed at how much you can get accomplished in just a few minutes–hopefully you’ll find these little reminders helpful, and together we’ll make sure we don’t waste any of our great deals!
