I had the opportunity to test out an Android smartphone with the unlimited service, and I have to say I’m impressed. I’ve been a pay-as-you go customer, but just with a regular phone (dumb phone??), and a by-the-minute/text plan. Because I didn’t use my old cell phone much, a $50/month plan would actually be a cost increase for me, but I suspect for many it would be less than what you’re paying now.
The unlimited aspect is the part that’s really appealing, because there’s no limit on how much data you can use with this phone. It’s really handy to be able to receive emails, search the internet, and access all the great money-saving mobile store apps on the go, and not have to worry about reaching your data limit. My house is in a bit of a cell phone black hole–less than a mile in any direction, and I get great coverage, but at home it can be a little iffy. If I had better coverage at home, I’d give serious consideration to keeping this $50/month plan, and ditching my land line. Even if I didn’t have a great signal at home though, it was great to be able to use it with the wifi.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much this phone can do with the no-contract, pay-as-you-go plan, and I think it’s an option that might appeal to many of our readers. You get an awful lot of bang for your buck this way…no, it’s not an iPhone, but it doesn’t come with an iPhone price tag either, and it does pretty much anything an average iPhone user would want to do.
