Microwave Cleaning with Dawn
You know we love cleaning with Dawn in just about every room of the house, so when I saw my microwave looking nasty, I wondered if our superhero cleaner could help me clean things up. Of course it could! In the past I’ve tried the “steam cleaning” method, where you boil water and let the steam loosen the grime. It worked, but I still had to do some scrubbing. Adding Dawn really helps!
Here’s my before…
Lots of the mess was greasy. As in “I forget how long it takes to melt butter so it pops all over my microwave roof” greasy. So since Dawn is my favorite grease cutter, I decided to add it to my water before microwaving–it helped so much!
Put about 1 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of Dawn in a microwave-safe mug, then microwave on high for two minutes (or until it steams). Let the steamy mixture sit in the closed microwave for about 5 minutes, allowing the steam to coat the surfaces, loosening the grime. Use a damp cloth (you can even wet the cloth with what’s left of the mixture in the cup) to wipe down the surfaces–most will wipe right off!
There were just a few spots that I had to go over an extra time or two, but no hard scrubbing was necessary. Adding Dawn to the water did a great job of cutting the grease in the mess, and made my job a whole lot easier.

So much better. And it only took six minutes, so I think I’m much more likely to do this more often, rather than letting it get quite as bad as the “before” picture again. 🙂
Easy Microwave Cleaning with Dawn
1 cup water
1 tsp. Dawn dishwashing soap
Mix in a microwave-safe mug or dish. Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until steamy. Keep in the closed microwave for 5 minutes. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
