Breakfast Smoothie of Champions Recipe  #BacktoSchoolSimple

Well MY first day back to teaching sixth grade is today! Yep, August 18th.  I will be entering my 19th year teaching.  I always have mixed emotions when the school season starts; the anticipation of meeting 140 new 6th graders on my team, the comfort of fresh clean floors and wax, excitement of decorating my class, and love the structure……..  It also means a goodbye to my fun-filled Summer days with my girls.

Giant Eagle is my preferred grocery store for the perks and selection (seriously, the annual cereal sale). It also offers great prices for busy families heading back to school for lunches, snacks and breakfast. For my family, 3 out of 4 of us head back to school – so Giant Eagle makes it easy to get prepared.

Mornings are SUPER busy in our house. I have to leave the house at 6:10 to make it to the school that I teach at on time. My husband heads out at 6:55 and drops the girls off at latchkey. So, it’s a smooth operation. The night before clothes are picked out and lunches are packed for my girls and myself.

Typical lunch includes:
*Schwebel’s Giant Bread
* Jif Peanut Butter
* Smucker’s Natural Fruit Spread (red raspberry is delicious too!)
* Giant Eagle String Cheese
* Nature’s Basket Fruit Bar
* Fruit (grapes, apple or clementine)
* Two Giant Eagle Napkins!

However, breakfast is something that I make sure is protein-packed for the whole family.  The brain prefers to run off of protein and the kiddos need that extra boost to attend to the many tasks expected of them!  We’ve gotten into an easy habit of making a healthy smoothie.

GE smoothie

Ingredients for a single protein-packed smoothie (over 31 grams of protein per smoothie!)
*1/2 cup of ice
*Bolthouse Farms Protein Plus  (I use the chocolate protein and strawberry protein varieties too)
*1/2 banana
*2 tablespoons of Jif Peanut Butter
*2 tablespoons of Smucker’s Natural Fruit Spread

A view from my desk at school. I may have eaten my Giant Eagle string cheese already, oops.

Bonus – a key to staying healthy when dealing with 140 sixth graders daily.

I’d love to hear how you make #BacktoSchoolSimple as you head on over to Giant Eagle for all of your back to school needs! Drop me a comment too any easy smoothie recipes you have come by.  My family is big into smoothies right now.
