Apple Streusel Cake Recipe
This is an amazing apple streusel coffee cake recipe perfect for any picnic or breakfast. I grew up on apple cake streusel as a Sunday breakfast before church, so it has a special place in my heart.
Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1½ cups flour
- 2¼ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup vegetable shortening, melted
- 1½ cups chopped Granny Smith apples or like (2 to 3 apples)
- Streusel Topping:
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Sift together dry ingredients.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg
- Add the milk and melted shortening.
- Mix the wet into the dry.
- Fold in the apples and mix well.
- Pour into greased 8-inch square pan.
- Mix together the streusel ingredients and sprinkle over the top of the batter.
- Bake at 400 about 25 - 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
