Welcome to Sisters Shopping on a Shoestring! We are Sara Steigerwald and Lisa Steigerwald, sister-in-laws and partners in $avings.

A little funny fact that explains a lot – Sisters Shopping on a Shoestring got started unintentionally! With ALL of our savings and freebies, we have been able to give back thousands of dollars (retail) to local churches, pantries, and charities. This is near and dear to our hearts. It was noticed and we were asked to teach others our money-saving ways. We have spoken to over 2,000 people through our seminars alone! Our first seminar had nearly 300 people. We believe in taking care of  family first and then taking care of your community! Hence, our logo ~ Save, Shop, Share!!  We love seeing and hearing of others paying it forward! In these tough economic times, people are in need. Couponing can help your family and community!

Hi Ladies! I am new to following your website. I subscribe to many and yours is probably one if not the best. I reside in New Jersey but I still use it. Unfortunately Jnuary 2012 I was diagnosed with RA to accompany the Intractable Migraines I have had for years. I have been on short-term disability and looking like will turn into long term disability. Not complaining, but during that time I have taught myself about the world of extreme couponing. Only my 26 yr old and I in my household – he is looking to move out soon. My local Samaritan Homeless Interim (Port) Shelter (called SHIP) loves me because I provide all types of hygiene products such as razors, shampoo, soap, detergents, that I get free…. hard for them to believe. I also have donated ton of hotel hygiene items UNUSED from friends to the local womens shelter. I would love t share my tips with people around here. How would I get strted doing something like that? Can you offer some insight – I would appreciate it! I saw your bible quote from Luke at the top….knew I came to the right place. Thank you so much! Have a blessed day! No shopping deal list for Acme this Ad week? I have checked the last two days. Am I missing it? I enjoy your website and use it every week, sometimes twice a week. Keep up the good work.

Not this week, I gave it once over and didn’t see anything that jumped out at me. I’ve had a jam-packed weekend. Will pick it up next week. Thanks for your understanding, Sally!

i have been asked to speak about couponing to small group of women at a church with a time slot of just 30 min. i personally think this would leave them hanging….would you please send me your opion in this matter? thanks, jen

sorry to post this here, i cant find a discussion page or how to contact you directly.

I agree Jen. I think 30 minutes is too little time. I have a hard time with an hour for my Lunch & Learn classes. I like 2 hour classes.

Love the new website but couldn’t figure out where to list this. We just went to Walgreen’s and the system wouldn’t take the $.40/3 coupon but I did this:
Bought 2 of the 4 pack bundle of Kleenex, used 2 of the $1 Sept. Walgreen’s coupons. Received the $2.00 Catalina, then used it on the Carmex 2 for $3.00. Did not have any other coupons for the Carmex. Received a $2.00 Catalina, then used it on the Colgate 360 Clean Toothbrushes.
Also, our cashier in Cleveland, Ohio was patient and friendly!

  4. Teresa says

I didn’t know if you knew or not but there is a KLEENEX® Tissue YourBucks® Offer in future savings when you buy Kleenex Tissue, 50 ct or larger between 9/3-9/30:
Buy 5, Receive $1.00 Catalina ($0.20 savings per item)
Buy 6, Receive $1.50 Catalina ($0.25 savings per item)
Buy 7, Receive $2.00 Catalina ($0.28 savings per item)

It looks like the website was updated over the weekend? The menus are not on the top and not the left. I dont see the clearprint options for the print and takes, which is a GREAT feature ur site had that others did not. Is this no longer available?

    • Megan says

Cleanprint should still be at the bottom of each post. You might need to click on the actual post (click on the title so just the one post is on the screen) and you’ll see it down at the bottom. Hope this helps! :)

Thank You for all your work and caring to share your talents with us all. I really appreciate it and have saved so much money already. With the ever rising cost of food and pretty much everything else in this world I don’t know how we would afford groceries if I didn’t coupon. You know as well as I do the grocery list is always the first one to get cut when paying bills. But with your site I don’t find myself needing to do that and we get foods that we like still :) Love you guys and pray the lord continues to use you to help us all. Oh and the new site looks great and the demo video really helped!

Hi, Good HouseKeeping Has a coupon for $.055 off any Daisy Brand Cottage Cheese, making it a $1.40 at Giant Eagle this week.

  8. Julia says

Hi – the 1.50/2 Brach’s coupon says it’s not good on holiday products, so it depends if you consider Candy Corn a holiday product as to whether it works at RA this week or not. Also – When I click on coupon database I get a page not found error. Is that a work in progress still? Thanks!

    • Megan says

Yep–Sara’s contacted her person about that…hopefully it’ll be up and running soon. If you have the Sisters Toolbar, the Database link there is still working!

  9. Katie LaPorte says

Love what you sisters do!!! I am the mom of a seven year old, and six year old quadruplets. My problem with coupons was that I would cut out great deals on products my family didn’t use. So…I stopped. Well, a month ago I was in Giant Eagle and the woman in front of me had a bill of $362 that she got down to $180. I was in shock. I asked her “How did you do that?” She said “Two Sisters Shopping On A Shoestring” She told me about your website and daily emails. I immediately signed up. Ok so the first trip I saved $50. Hey…gotta start somewhere. Tomorrow I go loaded with coupons…all for products my family uses and 20% off foodperks.
Thank you so much for everything you do!!!!!

  10. Julie says

I thought I would pass this deal on to you so you could share on your site. Do you have an email address that we can use if we find a great deal & want you to publish it on your site?

Today, 10/5/2012, at dollar general is the $5 off $25 or more coupon day. I found some GREAT matchups at my local store to score an AWESOME deal.

    Buy 4 Head & shoulders 6.8 oz $2.50 each= $10.00
    Buy 2 Degree Men’s Antiperspirant $1.85 each= $3.70
Buy 2 Clear Scalp Clear Men Scalp Therapy Shampoo $6 each=$12.00
    Subtotal= $25.70

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. It is DG policy to allow the $5 off $25 or more to be combined with manufacturer coupons.
Give cashier your $5 off $25 or more first. = -$5
Use 4- $2 off Head and Shoulders from PG 9/30= -$8
Use 2 Buy One Degree Men Product get one Clear Men Scalp Therapy product free (should deduct $6 each) RP 9/30= – $12
    Coupon totals= -$25.00
$25.70-$25.00= .70 FOR ALL 8 PRODUCTS OR ABOUT .09 EACH
    GREAT DEAL!!!!

I truly appreciate what this website does, as I understand money is tight all around nowadays and saving it anyway possible is crucial. I am all for penny pinching and I even love to “coupon” myself! But this website has a lot of our customers confused. I work for a major grocery store (one that you have its own tab for on the top page) and almost once a week a customer comes in and tries to take advantage of sales by going against our coupon policy. They will reference this site saying it is an official website of our store, so I wish there were more disclaimers that this is just a blog of people that have no association with the grocery stores they are posting sales for. Maybe a place you can view the coupon policy for each store too would be a great idea. I know my retailer only allows two printed internet coupons with the same PIN number, and I still see plenty of customers coming in with 12 copies of the same internet coupon. Like I said, this website is a great idea to save money, but you need to also play by the rules. Thank you for reading.

CVS is having sale this week, 2 Pantene items for $8. Use Pantene BOGO coupon and it rings up at $6.99! You also get $1 Extra Bucks coupon to use on your next transaction.
Check your P&G Coupons – this one expires TODAY, 10/31/12

  13. JSC says

Help!! My target coupons aren’t printing with the expiration date on them…. can anyone help me understand why all of a sudden this has happened? I contacted Target and their response was classic. If they don’t print right then I guess you can’t use them. <– really? I have never had this happen to me before!!
Thanks for any help you can offer

    • Megan says

Nice response, Target. :/ Hopefully it’s just a glitch (someone else mentioned the same thing happening to them in another comment, so it’s not just you!) As long as the barcode prints out OK, hopefully it’ll work…if it’s for something you wouldn’t buy without the coupon, you could ask at customer service before you shop, or if they won’t take it at checkout, then just politely ask them to remove that item from your order. The cashier might grumble, but if it’s from their own site and they opt not to take the coupon, then it’s their prerogative to lose out on the sale. Hope they get it fixed soon!!

  14. CAY says

Hi ….So i am new to your website and I am trying to figure things out. I have a question about your recent posting on CVS Colgate toothpast = FREE…
DO i have to use all the coupons suggested to get the Free deal?

    • Megan says

Cay, First of all, welcome! :) We’re glad to have you here! At CVS, you can just use one manufacturer’s coupon per product (sometimes there will be CVS store coupons that you can use along with manufacturer’s coupons, but just one manufacturer’s coupon per item). When you see a Final Price of free in the matchup, that’s after using the best coupon and after subtracting Extra Care Bucks (ECBs–the little coupons that print out on your receipt that you can spend like cash on your next purchase). If you don’t have ECBs from a previous purchase to pay, you’ll actually pay something out of pocket for the toothpaste, but then you’ll have ECBs to help you pay for your next purchase, so you’ll come out even. Hope that makes sense!

  15. Sarah says

Hi! I have been following your website from the beginning of my couponing experience, and I love it.
But I am a little frustrated though, I go to Giant Eagle every week with the coupons you ladies match up and it NEVER comes out right. Giant Eagle does not stack coupons the way you lay it out. If i have a coupon for $1/2 and a $.30/1 I have to buy 3 items to use them both not $1.60 the two items. It is extrememly frustrating bcause your site shows the coupons stacking for a final price I do not get. Am I missing something here in my couponing?

    • Megan says

Hi Sarah- Sorry for the frustration! Just to clarify, we try to list all the available coupons out there for a particular deal. For instance, some people might have the $1/2 coupon, and others might have that 30¢/1 coupon, so we want to let people know what’s available. If there’s a list of coupons below an item, those are all the options available, but you aren’t able to “stack” two manufacturer’s coupons on the same price. Our Final Price will reflect the lowest price available using the best coupons.

The only time you can “stack” is if there’s a store coupon (like a Target printable, a Rite Aid video value coupon, or a Walgreens in-ad coupon for example) along with a manufacturer’s coupon. But stores won’t let you stack two manufacturer’s coupons, since each one needs to be matched with an item that’s being purchased. I hope that helps–let us know if we can answer any more questions!

  16. Diane says

Hi, I am just wondering does anyone have a spreadsheet they use for their shopping to list the stores and prices ot items that they might want to share, been looking on the internet and have not found anything of real help

  17. Darlene says

I have not received in paper coupons flyers for the last two weeks. Is this because of the holdiays, or are vendors stoppping to adversting in this form. thanks

    • Megan says

Hi Darlene–the last two weeks there haven’t been coupons scheduled. We post a coupon preview every Thursday afternoon to let you know which inserts to expect. There will be just a P&G next week, then back to normal the week after.

  18. Heather says

HI Ladies!!! With your help I have been able to save so much money for my family!!! I do have a question though…for the sale that is coming up for Giant Eagle on 1/24/2013…it states that suave will be free with the coupon from this sundays paper….when I checked the coupon preview for smart source I didnt see one listed….is this s redplum coupon??? THANKS!!!

    • Megan says

The coupon preview that’s posted already on the site is for last Sunday. It’ll be in the paper on Sunday the 27th–we’ll post the complete coupon preview for that on Thursday afternoon. Hope this helps!

  19. Heather says

    Hello ladies!!
Can you let me know which newspapers in northeast Ohio carry the redplum inserts??? I missed out on all of the good deal today because none of the papers around here have them….

  20. Emily says

My husband just called me to say he heard on the radio that Giant Eagle is going to stop their Foodperks program. I looked into it and found this quote –
“The last day to earn Foodperks will be Feb. 13 and discounts must be redeemed by May 31″

  21. Melissa says

At Giant Eagle, Colgate toothpaste is 2 for $3. I had a $.50 coupon which doubled to $1. I had 2 coupons, so I got a reg. size tube of Colgate toothpaste for $.50 a tube.

  22. a says

Could you please stop changing the layout for this site? It never works. I just want a list. I don’t want the print-and-takes, and no matter how many browsers, plug-ins, computers I try I can’t get the RA/CVS/WAGS lists to open. I just want to see the deals, and it seems like every two days you change it and it doesn’t work right. I click, for exampls, CVS and after scrooling down for pages and pages I finally see a link to a list… and it doesn’t open anything! I loved this site because it is local, but since I find that so many of the deals advertised here are wrong, if I can actually see the deals that is, and now I don’t see any reason to continue with it :(

    • gmb says

I am so tired of the continued changes. Now when I try to work Giant Eagle, I have a “pop up” list. When I print it, I get all the coupons and everything listed. I don’t need all that on my list that I take to the store. It wastes ink and paper. My 20 item list today took five sheets of paper to print! The gadgets and gizmos don’t help–they turn me off to this site. Any suggestions on another site???

  23. Bill says

Hi, did you know Discount Drug Mart has Sunlight dish detergent on sale this week through Tues 3/05/13 for $1.00? With the $1.00 off coupon on Sunlight a couple weeks ago it free!

  24. Antiquesanthings says

I wasn’t sure how to submit a deal to let others know, but I was able to score this deal today!
I missed out on the Nook deal at Radio Shack. They were $19.97 regular price $79.99. It wasn’t from lack of trying, I probably called ten different locations! An employee tipped me off on a deal on the Kindle 3G + wi-fi though! They are on clearance for $39 regular price $180 at Radio Shack. At my locations if you spend $30 or more you get a $10 store credit which is good in 3 days on purchase of $10 or more! On top of that they have a military discount! So basically it came to about $25 + tax. You can’t stack your $10 off coupons but there were a lot of clearance items available making you next purchase a good deal as well! I also was able to pick up a case for the kindle clearanced 85% off for under $5!

  25. Selena says

I had a question about Giant Eagle Right now they are having a sale on Colgate toothpaste for $1.50 for 6.4oz. They also say there is a coupon for 75 cents off, doubling, and then making it free. The only coupon that I can find is 75 cents off is for Colgate optic white, max fresh, sensitive, etc. Those are not on sale for $1.50. I’m not sure if I’m looking at the wrong coupon or the wrong toothpaste. Thanks so much for any help!

  26. heather says

I have a question. I have a bunch of coupons for Pantene buy one get one free (up to $4.99 value). Will Giant Eagle accept them? And I saw there are coupons such as .75 off a bottle of Pantene. Can I use the coupons together? For example can I get 2 bottles of shampoo and use a buy one get one free coupon plus a .75 off coupon? Thanks, I’m kind of new to this couponing thing and trying to figure it out!

  27. says

Hi, we couponed for years and I stumbled across this article. It’s from 2011, but wondered if you all had heard anything about it. It does kinda make sense, I guess if we do get coupons from a cutting service we need to make sure they are clipped again to make each one a “individual”. You don’t have to post this in the group of course unless you wish, but I thought I’d check with the “experts” and see what you thought! Thanks for taking the time to read!

    • Megan says

Hi Bill–thanks for sharing! I looked it over, and it was an interesting read. We’ve definitely seen a backlash against coupons since the “extreme couponing” heyday of a few years ago. Manufacturers and retailers have tightened down on their coupon policies, limiting numbers of multiple coupons allowed. It’s sad that a few “bad apples” ruin things for everyone else, but we certainly try to promote ethical couponing around here, as well as buying only what your family needs (and what you’d reasonably like to donate) rather than stockpiling enough to last you 30 years :) I think most couponers are probably OK stacking a few inserts to clip more than one coupon at a time, but some of the examples shown of 12-20 papers may get flagged and cause some trouble. Definitely something to consider when clipping though!

  28. Jenn says

Hello there, fellow sisters! Just wanted to drop a line and thank you for all your dedicated hard work and help with couponing. I started it last year in mid-December when we started getting credit card bills for Christmas and I realized we needed to make up money somewhere. While, I don’t go a million places, just Giant eagle and wal-mart mostly, I still have been able to save over $4,000 just by using coupons for less than a year! It truly is amazing. Of course, my husband refuses to go grocery shopping with me anymore, but usually the people behind me are pretty amazed when I can save $60-70 off my bill each week. I have started with donations (at my kids’ school, mostly- goes to needy families in the area, so we make donations runs every 2-3 weeks) and they repay me with coupon circulars donated by the churchgoers. It feels good to be able to help and still not break your pocketbook, because we really aren’t made of money!
Anyway, I came across this app for my iphone “prep and pantry”. you scan in all the barcodes and can add expiration dates, then it sends you updates one month before expiration dates and lets you know when your pantry has expired items. you can also use it as a shopping list if you feel so inclined, but right now I just use it for the expiration dates. When I have a bunch of things that pop up on my <1 month before expiration, I will plan meals to use them up or put them in to be donated, because I know they will be used up quickly. Not sure if anyone can use this info, but I thought it was so helpful to be able to know at a push of a button which items were near expiration, which of the 35 cereals I have on hand were going to expire first, etc. Thanks again for your awesome website!!! You girls rock!

    • Megan says

What a fantastic story, Jenn–thanks so much for sharing! I haven’t heard of that app, but it sounds really useful! Keep up the great work, and we’re glad we were able to have even a small part in it! :)

I love your Giant Eagle Deals. I am so thankful for your matchups!!!

I am also thankful for our military service members. I was wondering if you were going to compile a list of Veterans’ Day freebies? I know Applebee’s, Panera, and Menchie’s. I was hoping that you would so that my families’ veterans would have an easy-reference for NE Ohio….they will be fat and happy that day. And, I hope, PROUD.

  30. Juanita M says

I just don’t understan the ibotta thing. I even got a smart phone , and I would like to use it?? Can you explain please. I do appreciate all your hard work.

    • Megan says

Hi Juanita–With Ibotta, you download the Ibotta app to your phone (search in your app store), then you select the offers you want to earn. With some you might need to answer a question, learn a fact, or share on Facebook to earn your offer. Then when you buy that product in the store, you take a photo of your receipt with the app, and it submits it, and you get your reward. Rewards accumulate in your account until you’re ready to take them out. Hope this helps!

HI, I love that I found a website that is for NE Ohio. I was curious why I can’t create a shopping list from the Acme Ad match ups like I can with other stores. That would be just one more plus for me and many others I think. Thanks for creating this and sharing with us all.

  33. Tiffany says

Has anyone ever shopped at GE the night before the ad breaks(Thursday) to see if the sale prices are in effect?

  35. Denise says

I didn’t see a place to comment under your most recent walgreens match-up ad. I had a question about the shout/windex deal. You say that we get $1.50 RR wyb 4 of each plus a $3 cat. I only got the $3 cat. Where can I go to prove to manager that I was supposed to receive both? Thank you again for all your hard work!

  36. Lecia Lance says

Hello…I just wondered if the two winners were ever picked for the $500 amazon cards. I had been watching and playing diligently. I asked on facebook the other day also, but haven’t seen if or who won these. Just very curious! Thank You!

    • Megan says

Karen, it doesn’t look like we’ll be having any before the holidays…it just gets too crazy with everyone’s busy holiday schedules! Probably January or February!

  37. Denise says

I believe the ad matchup for Buehler’s was for last week and it is not current through the 30th. My ad shows new deals effective Dec. 26th through Jan. 1st.

  38. karen says

I was just wondering if you personally use Checkout 51. I am new to that, so I was just wondering how legit they are. Have you ever received a check from them?

  39. Kathy Kerr says

I was wondering if you are having problems with your page today? The “P,F,etc” on the left side is covering up some things; the coupon site is off center so I can’t print and when you select deals for your list it won’t minimize so it covers everything up.

  40. -- says

I just wanted to let you know that I used to be an avid follower of Sisters until recently. Once you started allowing the advertisements that play sound, my couponing experience went downhill. I was a nervous wreck trying to plan my shopping list, not realizing it was because of the annoying ads. I kept turning down the volume on my computer, but forgot to turn it back up later. That ended up causing me more frustration. After weeks of fighting with this, I decided to move on.

I felt I owed you an explanation as to why I have found another couponing site. If the noisy advertisements have caused me to move on, it may cause you to lose other followers. I appreciate the time you put into your site but I just couldn’t take it any more. Thank you for the help you gave me for over a year while I was a follower.

  41. MOIRA says

Please tell me if the option to put in another zip code in the coupons.com has been removed. I used to use it when you suggested it for a coupon, but i can’t find it anymore. Thank you for any help with this.

    • Megan says

We don’t have any scheduled in the next few months, but as soon as we do, we’ll share on the web site and on Facebook! Thanks for your interest!

    • Topher says

      Hi Moira,

Coupons.com took away that function at the request of the manufacturers. The manufacturers want to target consumers in certain zip codes for their products, and when others in far away zip codes are grabbing the coupons, it defeats their purpose.

The coupons you now see available to you at Coupons.com are shown to you based on your IP address, not the zip code you have entered in your profile.

Hi! I love your website. Can you tell me where in the archives I can locate “Travel on a Shoestring: Disney World on a Budget”? When I click on it, it takes me to the incorrect link. It’s probably in the archives, but I don’t know which month and year. I know I saw it about a year or 2 ago, but I didn’t need it at that time. I wanted to check out some of the websites that were suggested for research and savings, but I can’t recall which ones they were. Thank you so much.
